The Victoria Royals have clinched a playoff spot in the 2024 WHL Playoffs for the first time since 2019.

The last time the club secured this honour was just days before the league shut down due to the pandemic in March of 2019.

The Royals secured their playoff spot thanks to a Tri City Americans loss against the Kelowna Rockets, who are also vying for a playoff berth.

The official entry into the playoffs comes despite the onslaught of injuries the suffered over the past few months.

Fortunately for the team, several players are expected to return before the playoffs begin, including the possible return of Robin Sapousek, who has been absent since mid-December after departing for the World Juniors in Sweden.

He was obviously slated to return after the tournament; however, an injury at the event has kept him out of the lineup since. He returned to Victoria in February and has been training with the team.

The Royals will  face the Everett Silvertips on the road this Friday before returning home for a game at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday, March 9th.

This will be a game fans won’t want to miss and will be Trades Night presented by Milestone Equipment Contracting & Vancouver Island Construction Association.

The concourse will be full of booths, information, and machinery for both kids and adults to learn more about trades work.

Fun pre-game activities for the whole family include “Meet a Machine,” “Touch a Truck” (weather permitting), a colouring contest, a bouncy castle, music, and treats.

The first 1,000 kids will receive a special mini-stick!
