A man in Colwood has been arrested for indecent exposure twice in one week, according to the West Shore RCMP.

At approximately 10:18 a.m. in the morning on March 24th, police responded to a report of a man committing “an indecent act” in front of a restaurant on the 1800 block of Island Highway in Colwood.

The suspect in question reportedly exposed himself in a sexual manner towards several witnesses inside the restaurant, including children.

Police say they were able to find and arrest the suspect who they say is a 36-year-old Nanaimo man.

According to West Shore RCMP, he was then held in custody before going before the court the following day.

He was eventually released with a court order “to remain fully clothed while in public places, and not to expose his genitals in a public place.”

Then, on March 27th at approximately 3:57 p.m., police received another report of the same man underneath the Six Mile Road bridge in View Royal.

Again, he was reportedly committing an indecent act while in plain view of a number of youths.

Police say they located him two hours later and once again arrested.

According to West Shore RCMP, this time, they discovered he was also wanted on a warrant related to indecent exposure in Burnaby from November of last year for which he failed to attend his court date.

He was reportedly held in custody until he once again faced the courts. This time he was not released, but instead remanded until his next court date on April 2nd.

The suspect now faces a number of charges from three separate investigations, including:

  • 3 counts of indecent act
  • 1 count indecent exposure to a minor
  • 1 count of failure to comply with release order

“Sexual crimes against youths not only affect the victims, but can have lasting effects on the entire community,” said Cst. Andrew Matheson, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

“We are pleased to see this individual off the streets and want to thank the witnesses for their bravery in calling the police right away. Their information was critical in locating and arresting the suspect.”
