This Tuesday presents a wonderful mix of local events, including a Victoria-based country duo at Darcy’s Pub, a multilingual poetry reading and an open mic night at Phoenix Bar and Grill.

If you’re looking for something a little less social, catch a cheap movie at Capitol 6 Theatres or catch a play.

A Night of Sonnets

Hermann’s Jazz Club will be hosting a special evening this Tuesday!

The Faculty of Humanities, and the Departments of English, French and Francophone Studies, and Hispanic and Italian Studies at UVic present a “Night of Sonnets.”

Come hear a selection of beloved, inspiring, and intriguing sonnets in English, French, Spanish and Italian—don’t worry, it’s not a class or lecture, just a multilingual poetry reading event to celebrate the genre.

Admission is $5 in cash at the door.

Open Mic at Phoenix Bar and Grill

Bring your talent or cheer on the brave performers at Phoenix Bar and Grill’s open mic night!

Organized by Firebird Variety Open Mic, this free event is a great opportunity to practice being in front of an audience within a relaxed environment.

Bring all of your pals along too! Signup starts at 6:30 p.m. and the show is at 7:30 p.m. They allow two songs or 10 minutes for musical acts—whichever comes first!

Tuesday Saver at Capitol 6 Theatres

Nothing better than cheap movie night—catch a Tuesday Saver movie at Capitol 6 Theatres downtown!

If you’re looking for ideas, Challengers featuring Zendaya, Mike Faist, Josh O’Connor and A.J. Lister recently hit theatres.

Other feature films include Unsung Hero, Boy Kills World, Abigail and more!

Tickets are $8.75 as opposed to the usual $15.75.

The Lehman Trilogy

From April 23rd to May 19th, Tony Award-winning play, The Lehman Trilogy, will be taking over the stage in a flurry of intoxicating adventure.

The story takes place in 1844 and follows Heyam, a young man from Bavaria, as he stands on a New York dockside dreaming of a new life.

He is soon joined by Mendel and Mayer, and the Lehman brothers’ journey begins—together navigating the Civil War, the Great Depression, and generations of ethical dilemmas.

Tickets are sold in a pay-what-you-can fashion, starting at $17.85.
