Happy Thursday, Victoria!

Buckle up, it’s is going to be a busy one—between live performances in all forms, dancing and creativity, there’s much to choose from.

If you’re not looking for a late night, Gigi’s Writers Open Mic is a great way to stay connected to the literary community or enter into it!

Here’s 5 things to do in and around Victoria on Thursday, May 2nd:

Spring Tour ‘24

After plenty of packed shows across BC, including Port Alberni, Vancouver, Chilliwack, Kelowna and Salt Spring Island, the Spring Tour ‘24 is set to make a stop in downtown Victoria. 

This special tour will take the Lucky Bar stage, featuring artists such as Emotionz—a graffiti artist, beatboxer, rapper, and DJ, and SirReal—also a talented rapper.

Other artists include Aeon Crux, Reflectionz, Lavell, Stax, Dlopez and DJ Anger and The Dia Cat—together, they promise a night of rare and vibrant BC hip-hop talent.

Bach’s Coffee Cantata

Creative collective Gay4Nature will be presenting their first-ever touring production across cafes and galleries—choosing Bach’s 30-minute Coffee Cantata as the perfect inspiration for entertainment.

From this Thursday to Saturday, May 4th, several locations around Victoria will be hosting this enthralling version of Bach’s work, including Friends of Dorothy and Caffe Fantastico.

Dive into this revised and whimsical baroque opera about a girl’s unquenchable thirst for coffee, which wonderfully touches on the relationships between daughter and father and the lengths people go to caffeinate themselves.

Pablo Cardenas Presents: The Night of Afro-Latin Rhythms

The The West Coast Cuban Orchestra and Pablo Cardenas welcomes you to the Victoria Event Centre (VEC) for their Afro-Latin Rhythms night!

This vibrant evening is meant to celebrate the roots of Cuba, Latin America, and Caribbean Music.

Featured percussionists include Nicolas Marquez from Colombia, Pedro Siqueira from Brazil, Hector Ramos from Cuba, and Amauri O’Farrill from Cuba.

Tickets are $25.50 if purchased in advance or $30 at the door.

Writers’ Open Mic

Head down to Gigi’s Cafe for an evening of inspiration, creativity, hard-hitting lines, and more at their Open Mic for writers.

If you’re feeling brave, come with your writing and present it to an audience within a 10 minute time-slot.

Everyone is happy to listen to whatever you have—be it poetry, fiction, or nonfiction!

Their kitchen and coffee bar will be open, so you can enjoy some delicious refreshments while you listen!

The Lehman Trilogy

From April 23rd to May 19th, Tony Award-winning play, The Lehman Trilogy, will be taking over the stage in a flurry of intoxicating adventure.

The story takes place in 1844 and follows Heyam, a young man from Bavaria, as he stands on a New York dockside dreaming of a new life.

He is soon joined by Mendel and Mayer, and the Lehman brothers’ journey begins—together navigating the Civil War, the Great Depression, and generations of ethical dilemmas.

Tickets are sold in a pay-what-you-can fashion, starting at $17.85.
