The downtown Victoria library is suffering from some serious window-related deja vu lately.
The Greater Victoria Public Library’s central branch has fallen victim to vandalism for the sixth time in three weeks as of the evening of Tuesday, February 14th.
The first broken window took place on January 28th which caused a temporary closure of the library located at 735 Broughton Street. By February 2nd they had suffered another incident resulting in one window being completely decimated.

Since then, four more incidents of window smashing have occurred at the same branch with the latest happening late at night on Tuesday, February 14th or in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“We’re unable to provide any specific detail as this is still part of an ongoing police investigation,” said Kelly Ridgeway, marketing and development for GVPL.
“I confirmed that a window was broken overnight on February 14/15 and that the branch had a full-day closure on February 15 due to the broken window impacting the safe entry and exit of staff and library users.”

Ridgeway added that in all of the scenarios in which the central GVPL branch has suffered a broken window, the culprit has broken the glass from outside the library.
Victoria Buzz contacted VicPD for a comment on the status of their investigation but as of this publication, they have not replied.
