A Quebec fugitive wanted on child pornography charges has been arrested in Parksville.

Oceanside RCMP received a tip from the public Wednesday that a man wanted on an arrest warrant from Quebec was believed to be in the city.

39-year-old Jimmy Pieschke has been on the run for some time and was believed to be hiding out on Salt Spring Island in February.

Pieschke was charged in Quebec for making child pornography and failed to appear in court after pleading guilty to several charges.

“Thanks to information received from the public and partnerships with the Sûreté du Québec’s Internet Child Sexual Exploitation Investigation Division, the E Division RCMP Fugitive Return Program, and the BC Sheriff Service,” said Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.

“Jimmy Pieschke was successfully arrested and is being held in custody to be escorted to Quebec to appear in court.”

Following the tip from the public, officers quickly located and arrested Pieschke.

He is being held in custody to be escorted to Quebec to appear in court.
