The Midget C5 Braves will play their first game this week since losing one of their teammates in a freak accident at Mount Washington.
Reid enjoyed his last day snowboarding with his dad, 3 sisters and a brother at Mt. Washington. Reid’s mom stayed home to await the arrival of his oldest brother who was coming home for Christmas. A freak accident on the hill would mark Reid’s last ride.
15-year-old Reid Kyfiuk, an experienced snowboarder who was in Grade 10 at Claremont Secondary School in Saanich, was found in a tree well about seven hours after he went missing.
Mount Washington’s alpine ski patrols immediately launched a search, and Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue were called at 5 p.m. His body was located about 11 p.m.
A moment of silence will be held during the game for Reid. The team is also asking any Saanich Minor Hockey players to wear their black jerseys and everyone else to wear red.
“Our team would love the support for the game to get as many fans as we could,” reads a Facebook post.
According to the Saanich Minor Hockey Association, there will be a memorial table to honor Reid set up at Pearkes Rec centre. A book of condolence will be available for you to leave a message if you wish.
Where: Pearkes Recreation Centre – in the gold rink
When: December 29, at 7:30pm… It’s a midget C5 game
The family requests that anyone asking “what can they do” to please pray for Reid by Googling the Divine Mercy Chaplet and to please add in Reid’s name when saying the Rosary.
The Kyfuik family is not asking for privacy, but to please help them in celebrating the gracious life that their son lived and shared with all of us on and in all of his adventures.
There will be a service on December 29 1:00pm at St. Joseph’s to honour Reid’s life.
