Nash will become the first Canadian-trained basketball player to be immortalized in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
The 6’3″ point guard, who played his high school ball at both Mount Douglas Secondary and Saint Michael’s University School, had an incredible NBA career that saw him win back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and 2006.
Known for his deft ball handling abilities and incredible playmaking, Nash sits 3rd all-time on the NBA assist list with 10,355, trailing only John Stockton and Jason Kidd.
His number 13 has been retired by the Phoenix Suns, he won the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s most outstanding athlete in 2015, and led the NBA in assists on 5 separate occasions.
After retiring in 2015, he stands as the only Canadian to have ever won the MVP award, is now the only Canadian-trained player to ever join the Hall of Fame, and undoubtedly has been the face of Canadian basketball over the previous two decades.
Safe to say, the recognition is well deserved.
Congratulations Steve!
