A three-vehicle collision just after noon on Monday afternoon on the Pat Bay Highway left one person with life-threatening injuries and two others with minor injuries.

The incident occurred at 12:19 p.m. at the Haliburton Road intersection.

According to a release from Saanich PD, a white SUV heading northbound on the highway rear-ended a blue SUV, which then crashed into the back of a semi-truck that was stopped in traffic.

Once on scene, Saanich PD discovered that one of the occupants from the white SUV had suffered potentially life-threatening injuries.

They were transported to the hospital in critical condition, but police now say they are in serious but stable condition.

Two other people suffered minor injuries from the crash and were also taken to hospital.

All people involved are cooperating with investigators, police say, and the exact cause of the collision is still under investigation. A Collision Analyst was called to the scene after the incident, and Saanich PD has ruled that driver impairment was not a factor.

The accident impacted traffic for almost two hours, resulting in significant backups for cars heading north.
