As if the city isn’t drenched enough after Saturday’s heavy rainfall.
Environment Canada has extended the rainfall warning for Greater Victoria and is expecting anywhere from 50 to 70 mm of rain in the region by Monday, with the heaviest rain occurring on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.
“A significant atmospheric river event will bring copious amounts of rain and near record temperatures to southeastern Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands today through Monday morning,” the weather alert read.
“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” warns the weather agency.
The original warning was issued early Saturday morning and is in effect for majority of Vancouver Island.
Most of the Vancouver Island region including Tofino, Ucluelet and Port Alberni will see 50 to 75 mm of rain by late this afternoon when the heavy rain eases. However, further south closer to where the front will stall, heavy rain will continue through tonight.
Port Renfrew and Lake Cowichan will receive 100 to 150 mm of rain by Monday morning.
The rain is expected to ease by Monday afternoon.
