Armed robber steals cash, lottery tickets from Nanaimo business

A Vancouver Island business was robbed by a man brandishing a possible handgun last month, and police are searching for the thief responsible.

Nanaimo RCMP say the suspect entered the 5th Street business on January 26th at 9 p.m., pointing the gun at an employee before stealing money and lottery tickets.

He then fled the scene.

The man, who police say appears to be around 40-years-old, is described as Caucasian and stands at around 5’6″. He wore a black ski mask and a blue coat during the robbery.

While police responded quickly, Cst. Wade says they did not catch the suspect. However, no injuries were reported, and Victim Services are working with those impacted by the ordeal.

“The 500-block of 5th Street is a busy area,” Wade added.

“And if you were driving by or walking in the area at approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday the 26th and saw someone matching the clothing description of the suspect, you may have valuable information that could assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345 and reference file 2022-2949.
