Howard the Gnome has begun his trip to Saanich’s Galey Farm

Howard the World’s Tallest Gnome, who was at risk of being torn down in March, has officially begun his journey to the popular Saanich property, Galey Farms.

His new home was chosen after the family that built him received hundreds of offers, some from off the island and even some from out of the country.

To make the trip, the 25 ft tall gnome was cut into smaller pieces to fit on a large vehicle, starting with his hat and then his head. In total, the Guiness World Record-holding attraction weighs just over 1,100 pounds.

Once Howard is in Victoria, he will undergo much needed restorations before greeting farm guests at Galey’s.

Back in March, the family of Howard’s creator were told that his disintegrating condition had become a hazard and that he would have to be moved from his iconic spot by the Island Highway in Nanoose Bay or be destroyed.

After the community successfully rallied and fundraised to save the giant attraction, Galey Farms was chosen to house Howard and give him a full restoration.
