One man has succumb to his injuries and another suffered minor injuries after a T-bone crash on the Malahat Thursday night.

Emergency officials were called to the crash scene near McCurdy Drive about 4:50 p.m, following a collision between a white pickup truck and a red van.

The crash closed the highway from the Summit to the Bamberton exit in both directions for about three hours.

Witnesses said a mini-van tried to cross the highway to get into a turning lane but was T-boned by a northbound truck.

Lana Hunter, a manager at Malahat Mountain Meadow RV Park near the crash scene, told the Times Colonist the man killed was named Matt, a resident of the RV park. Hunter said Matt, a father, has been living at the RV park for a few months.

RCMP is asking witnesses to yesterday’s fatal collision on Malahat to call South Island Traffic Services at 250-416-0352.
