Since we had a combination of blue skies, warm sun, and 70-90km/hr winds across the city this week, what better way to enjoy the outdoors this weekend than by flying a kite? And after all that excitement and sun, why not stop for a satisfying meal from a local restaurant?

Here are 3 scenic places to fly a kite in Victoria this weekend paired with meals nearby to satiate your hunger:

1 – Cattle Point to Willows Beach

An idyllic setting near Uplands Park in Oak Bay, Willows Beach offers a long stretch of sandy shoreline and light yet consistent winds, perfect for beginner kite fliers. Located just off Beach Drive, a 15-minute drive from downtown, patrons can appreciate stunning views of both Discovery Island and Mount Baker.

Pair this location with a meal from The Village Restaurant in the Estevan Shopping Centre. Conveniently located within walking distance from Willows Beach, this famous brunch spot has their breakfast menu available all day. Or take advantage of their extensive take out menu and try the Estevan Sandwich, made with local Cowichan Valley chicken breast and housemade cranberry chutney.

A short walk from the Archie Browning Sports Centre in Esquimalt, this compact park has it all: a sheltered beach, forest trails, and a large grassy area overlooking the Juan de Fuca Strait—the perfect spot to launch a kite! Located at the end of Fraser Street, this popular community park is impeccably maintained and a hub of activity.

Pair this location with an afternoon snack from La Belle Patate, the most authentic cuisine Québécoise in the vicinity. Walking distance from Saxe Point, this would be a great option for those looking for a tranquil picnic in the park to enjoy a smoked meat sandwich, a classic poutine, and a spruce beer—a famous Quebec soft drink flavoured with the essence of spruce trees.

  • Hours: Open Monday-Thursday 11:00am to 11:00pm | Friday-Saturday 11:00am to 1:00am
  • Where: 1215 Esquimalt Rd, Esquimalt BC

The waterfront on Dallas Rd offers expansive green spaces that oftentimes experience strong winds—a kite-flying paradise. Clover Point, or known locally as Kite Point, is one of the best spots to watch a variety of wind sports: parasailing, windsurfing, and sailing. Why not join in the fun? Offering views of the Olympic Peninsula and Port Angeles, this is a perfect location to watch the cruise ships float into the sunset.

Pair this location with dessert at the Beacon Drive-In Restaurant, the best soft serve ice cream in the city. Their menu encompasses everything from breakfast specials to fish and chips and is a popular option for locals and tourists alike.

  • Hours: Open Sunday – Thursday: 7:00 am to 10:00 pm Friday – Saturday: 7:00 | am to 10:30 pm
