A series of earthquakes struck off the west coast of Vancouver Island on Sunday morning.

According to the US Geological Survey, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake was followed by a 4.8 and 4.2 aftershock.

The first quake struck around 8:20 a.m. 149 kilometres southwest of Port Hardy, followed by two more aftershocks at 9:48 a.m. and at 10:14 a.m. in the same area.

No tsunami warnings have been issued for any of these earthquakes.

Earlier this month, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of northwest Vancouver Island. The quake followed on the heels of a 7.0 magnitude quake in Anchorage, Alaska that also occurred on Friday, November 30th.
