5 holiday events happening at Victoria’s Royal BC Museum this December

The holiday season is just around the corner, and one Victoria institution has a whole lineup of events to help you and your family celebrate.

Throughout December, the Royal BC Museum will be hosting various holiday-themed (or not!) activities for its patrons to enjoy throughout the month.

Without further ado, here are 5 events happening at the museum in December:

13th Annual Carol-Along with the Carillon

Gather under the Netherlands Centennial Carillon with your fellow singers, family and friends for a one-of-a-kind carolling party.

The carillon will be played by Provincial Carillonneur Rosemary Laing and the Newcombe Choir will be gathered below to lead the carol singing. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served to make the season bright.

At the end of the 45-minute set, the carillon will be lit up for the holidays.

  • When: December 1st, 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Father Christmas in Old Town

Visit with Father Christmas in Old Town, have your photo taken and share your holiday wishes.

He will be at the Royal BC Museum on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting on December 6th and ending on December 22nd.

This magical visit is included with admission or membership to the museum, and photos are by $5 suggested donation.

  • When: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays from December 6th – 22nd

Museum Happy Hour: A Festive Non-Holiday Party

This one’s for those who need a break from Christmas trees and carols and lights.

The museum’s happy hour will take place in the Natural History gallery complete with drinks and light refreshments.

While this is a 19+ event, guests are welcome to bring their kids as the Happy Hour runs alongside the Parallel Play Childminding program.

  • When: December 12th, 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Admission: $10 per person

Wonder Sunday: Chill Out

Every Sunday take your family to the museum’s new Learning Centre for a true winter treat.

Explore the art and science of snow and cold through fun interactive activities: discover the peculiarities of penguin feet, the benefits of blubber, and the beauty of the seven basic snowflake shapes.

Admission to this event is included with your museum ticket.

  • When: Every Sunday in December.

Early Shift: Reign in the New Year

On the last day of 2019, head over to the rainforest of the Maya: The Great Jaguar Rises exhibition for a jungle party for the ages.

Royal BC Museum’s annual family-oriented party will be a tropical frolic, with music, activities and games.

  • When: December 31st, 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Admission: $24 per adult, $16 per youth.
