TLC and Broken Social Scene performing second day of Rifflandia this September

Another big announcement came out from Rifflandia as they have released who will be playing on Saturday, September 14th.

With Ja Rule headlining the Friday night, the festival seems to be leaning into 90s nostalgia as Saturday’s big headliner will be none other than TLC.

TLC dominated pop charts and are one of the most iconic R&B groups to ever exist with songs like “Waterfalls,” “No Scrubs” and “Creep” still being widely known, even to generations that came after their heyday.

Rifflandia also announced that Oliver Tree and Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be the festival’s secondary headliners, both of whom have found fame and success recently with their songs going viral on social media.

Tree’s collaboration with German producer Robin Schulz, “Miss You,” became an internet sensation, but far before then he has been doing everything he can to set himself apart and his efforts have led to several chart topping albums.

Ellis-Bextor is best known for her 2002 single, “Murder on the Dancefloor,” which has come back into the spotlight after it was featured in the 2023 film Saltburn.

Also listed in Rifflandia’s Saturday announcement is iconic Canadian alt-indie band Broken Social Scene.

The band famously features a massive number of musicians who all have other projects on the go and are based out of Toronto. They have 27 members and “collaborators,” however not all of them are active in the band at the same time.

Some notable members who may end up gracing the Rifflandia stage this year with Broken Social Scene are Emily Haines of Metric, Leslie Feist of Feist and Jason Collett.

“This year’s Rifflandia lineup has been so much fun to book! Combined with all of our exciting plans for the new site at Rock Bay, we will deliver a festival experience unlike anything Victoria has ever witnessed,” exclaimed Nick Blasko, President and CEO, Rifflandia Entertainment Co.

Here are the rest of the bands listed to play Rifflandia on Saturday, September 14th.

Rifflandia also noted in their Instagram announcement of Friday’s lineup that comedy will be a big part of this year’s festival once again via the Lafflandia stage.

This year, there will be four stages, including the Lafflandia comedy stage, where acts will be playing throughout the festival’s new site on the Matullia Lands in Rock Bay.

The new site is adjacent to Phillips Brewing’s backyard where the festival used to take place.

Sunday, September 15th’s lineup will be announced on May 30th.

Right now, tickets are on sale at “Tier 2” prices, with the cost of tickets only going up. The next price increase will take place on Friday, May 10th when “Tier 3” pricing comes into effect.

Rifflandia Festival is one of the longest running large-scale music and arts festivals in Western Canada having operated since 2008.

Past iconic musical icons have graced the Rifflandia stage, such as Iggy Pop, Run The Jewels, Lorde, Moby, Charli XCX, Post Malone, Courtney Love, Paris Hilton, and so many more.

What do you think of the lineup so far? Let us know in the comments!
