Several roads around Victoria’s Inner Harbour are closed to traffic until 5 p.m. today for one great reason:

Season 2 of The Twilight Zone starring Jordan Peele –  iconic American actor, writer, director, and producer – is filming in Victoria.

Vancouver Island Film Commissioner Kathleen Gilbert told Victoria Buzz that a TV series called Bonzo is filming in the CRD this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bonzo is the known working title for season 2 of The Twilight Zone, which is a remake of the classic 1959 American series featuring tales of science fiction, mystery, and horror.

The show, produced by Gravity Productions, is being filmed primarily in Vancouver between October 2019 and March 2020 with segments filmed in Victoria, and will be aired on CBS.

“Part of the issue around filming in Victoria is we want to have as little disruption as possible to the public,” says Gilbert.

However she notes that the economic impact of the filming has already been significant, with over 600 hotel room nights booked and over 380 locals employed as background performers.

“One department alone spent over $180,000 in Victoria over the last couple of days.”

The first season of the 2019 Twilight Zone remake released in April received a 73% Rotten Tomatoes score.

In it, Jordan Peele hosts and narrates tales of science fiction, fantasy and the occult, exploring humanity’s hopes, despairs, prides, and prejudices in metaphoric ways.

Peele is best known for directing psychological thrillers like Get Out, for which he won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and Us.

At this time, it is unclear whether Jordan Peele himself is in Victoria for the filming.
