CNN Travel has named Vancouver Island as one of its 20 top travel destinations for 2020

Featuring such exotic places as Sri Lanka, St. Petersburg, and Zambia, the list names Vancouver Island as Canada’s “treasure chest.”

Described as “a 290-mile stretch of pristine forest and beaches punctuated by small, artsy towns and a cosmopolitan capital city,” the island is the only Canadian destination on CNN’s list.

While the entire island is featured, the guide recommends two main locations — Tofino and Victoria.

“Tofino is a pretty fishing village with excellent but affordable dining options. It’s also popular for its whale watching, which you can see up close from a boat or overhead in a seaplane taking off from the harbour,” CNN writes.

The list also recommends dining at Tacofino, the small town’s famous food truck.

Victoria, on the other hand, is a “city of stately Edwardian architecture.”

“Swap your hiking boots for boat shoes for high-class dining, shopping, green spaces, and sights such as the Royal BC Museum,” the travel outlet writes.

“Be lulled to sleep on a floating cottage in the harbour and take the small water taxis into town.”

The blurb also highlights Vancouver Island’s plethora of hikes, First Nations art and culture, and surf spots!

With plenty of other incredible destinations on the list, it’s quite the compliment to be considered one of the top travel spots for the new year.

Perhaps we can expect even more cruise ship visitors this year!
