After releasing surveillance photos of their suspect, Saanich Police have identified and arrested a 40-year-old man for sexually assaulting two people after initiating contact with them on BC Transit buses last month.

At around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday February 27th, a 17-year-old girl was approached by the suspect aboard a BC Transit bus.

When she exited the bus at the Royal Oak bus exchange, he followed her and began to make unwanted sexual advancements towards her, including unwanted touching.

The teenager was not physically injured during the sexual assault and has been offered various resources in the aftermath of the incident.

According to an update from police later on, a 25-year-old woman reported a similar incident in which a man sexually assaulted her near a bus stop in the Quadra Street corridor on February 26th at around 10 p.m.

The man engaged this girl in conversation, followed her off the bus and began to make unwanted sexual touching.

Saanich Police, with assistance from Victoria Police, have arrested a 40-year-old man from Sidney in connection with both of these incidents.

He has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, released on conditions, and is expected to appear in court in the near future.

“We want to thank BC Transit and VicPD for their assistance. The women have been
in contact with our detectives and offered various resources” stated D/Sgt Damien Kowalewich.
