Share

A COVID-19 exposure event spanning four days has been reported by Island Health at an elementary school in Port Alberni.

The health authority says that the exposure occurred over December 15 to 18, affecting one individual at Wood Elementary School.

Contact tracing has been completed and phone calls have been made to staff and students that Island Health has identified as needing to self isolate for 14 days from when they were exposed.

Letters have also been sent to staff and students who will be asked to self-monitor for symptoms. They will still be permitted to attend school while self-monitoring.

Staff and parents of students who did not receive a phone call or letter can rest assured they and their children are not at a high risk of exposure. These individuals can continue to attend school as normal.

Wood Elementary School joins a list of schools in Port Alberni that have seen exposures to COVID-19, including Alberni District Secondary School, EJ Dunn Elementary School and AW Neill Elementary School.

All exposure events are listed on the Island Health website.
