BC reports 761 new cases of COVID-19 in latest provincial update

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 761 new cases of COVID-19 across the province on Thursday, for a total of 56,015 cases since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 94
  • Fraser Health: 484
  • Island Health: 23
  • Interior Health: 96
  • Northern Health: 64

The number of active cases in B.C. has increased from 6,343 to 6,349.

There are now a total of 372 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 74 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

8 more people have died from COVID-related causes, bringing the provincial death toll to 970.

8,849 people are in isolation, under active public health monitoring, after exposure to COVID-19.

A total of 47,374 people have recovered from novel coronavirus.

Outbreaks

One new health-care facility outbreak has been declared, at Ts’i’ts’uwatul’ Lelum Assisted Living in Island Health.

In total, there are 51 assisted-living, long-term care homes, seniors’ rental buildings and 10 acute-care facilities with ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Island Health

23 new cases were reported in the Island Health region on Thursday.

As of Wednesday, there are 152 active cases remaining in the region, according to Island Health. By Health Service Delivery Area, they are:

  • South Island: 53 | Total cases: 360
  • Central Island: 73 | Total cases: 460
  • North Island: 26 | Total cases: 230

No new deaths were reported in the Island Health region. Nine people are currently hospitalized, including two in intensive care units.

Vaccinations

41,064 (+7,399) people have been inoculated against COVID-19 across B.C. with vaccinations from Pfizer and Moderna.
