The driver in a fatal two-vehicle crash in Saanich from last Thursday has been identified by family members.

Chris McNutt was named by his sister-in-law online as the deceased driver in a two-vehicle crash on February 4.

The crash occurred in the 5200 block of West Saanich Road and involved a white Dodge Ram pickup truck and a black two-door Honda CRX.

McNutt, the driver and sole occupant of the black Honda CRX, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not release details on what led to the crash or whether speed was considered a factor.

Described as an avid car lover, McNutt is survived by his “high school sweetheart” and wife, Kristy.

A GoFundMe has been set up by Kristy’s sister as a way to help raise money for personal financial burdens, including funeral costs.

The fundraiser has achieved over half of its $10,000 goal as of this publication.

“It will take some time to investigate and determine the events that led up to the collision, as well as the cause of death,” Saanich Police said in a statement last week.

Investigators are asking that witnesses or anyone with information contact Saanich PD at 250-475-4321.
