A fatal fire in James Bay Monday morning has left one man dead.
A VicPD spokesperson said officers were called to a multi-unit residential building in the 100-block of Menzies Street at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning, where the Victoria Fire Department were already on scene battling a fire.
The fire damaged at least two suites of the top floor of the Village Green apartments.
Flames and thick smoke could be seen emerging from both sides of the building.
VicPD’s Major Crime Unit and officers with Forensic Identification Services determined there was no criminality involved in the fire.
The BC Coroners Service is continuing an independent investigation surrounding the death.
There were no other injuries as a result of this fire. The building sustained significant fire damage.
The identity of the deceased has not released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
