As one COVID-19 outbreak comes to an end, another has emerged at a Greater Victoria area long-term care home.

In a Monday update, Island Health says two resident cases have been attributed to an outbreak on the third floor of the east wing at The Heights at Mt. View in Victoria.

“The case numbers reported … are cases that have been confirmed via PCR testing or follow up from Island Health’s case and contact management team,” the health authority said.

At Mt. View, essential visits can continue, and remaining staff and residents are now being screened for symptoms.

Other outbreak response protocols in place include:

  • Staff movement will be limited wherever possible
  • No congregate dining or group activities for residents of affected units
  • Enhanced cleaning and infection control measures will continue
  • Residents, families and staff are being notified

Meanwhile, the outbreak at Island View Place Care long-term care home in Saanichton—where two residents and one staff tested positive for COVID-19—has been declared over.

“Staff is to be commended for continuing to deliver high-quality, compassionate care while diligently following outbreak protocols,” Island Health said.
