Arrests made during brush fire near Uptown on Sunday not connected to the blaze

Firefighters in Saanich swiftly responded to a small grass fire near Uptown Shopping Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The incident, which occurred in a grassy area close to Blanshard Street and Saanich Road, was quickly brought under control at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported, according to Saanich police spokesman Const. Markus Anastasiades.

The fire is believed to be accidental, and no investigation is currently underway.

Two people were arrested following a fire near Uptown Sunday afternoon but it appears to be unrelated to the blaze. Saanich Police did confirm officers arrested two men near the fire scene for assault, but both were released without charges.The blaze started around 2 p.m. along the meridian near Saanich and Blanshard. At the time of the incident, the Saanich Fire Department was already present at the scene, and police officers arrived shortly thereafter.

While two individuals were initially apprehended for assault in the area, they were subsequently released without charges after it was determined they were not involved in the fire incident.
