One man has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being shot near a Nanaimo homeless camp on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Terminal Avenue.

Two people were arrested following the incident, however, no charges have been laid yet.

Responding officers located an adult man with a life-threatening injury, believed to have been caused by a firearm.

Police provided emergency first aid and were able to stabilize the individual.

Meanwhile, as police delved into the shooting incident, they were simultaneously confronted with another case just a few blocks away.

Additional resources were called to the 100 block of Victoria Road following a report of an adult male being stabbed. However, the victim chose not to cooperate with police, and no suspects have been identified thus far.

Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were deemed minor in nature, and he was treated at a local hospital before being released.

“This incident was unrelated to the shooting but did require additional police resources to respond and to investigate properly,” Constable Gary O’Brien clarified.

In March, Nanaimo business owner Clint Smith, was shot in the stomach and suffered serious injuries near the same encampment.

Smith, along with a group of people, went with the intent of retrieving stolen mechanic equipment stolen from Ernie’s Blackpoint Repair which Smith operates.
