‘Places, everyone!’: Reginald the Vampire to shoot scenes in Esquimalt this Tuesday

On Tuesday, June 20th film crews will be headed into Esquimalt to shoot scenes for the hit SyFy series, Reginald the Vampire.

The series’ star is actor Jacob Batalon who plays Reginald Baskin. Batalon rose to fame following his work as Peter Parker’s best friend and ‘guy in the chair’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise.

The show’s other stars are Canadian actor Mandela Van Peebles and Em Haine who calls Vancouver home.

The series is shooting its second season and some residents in Esquimalt received notice in their mailboxes that film crews would be working in the area this Tuesday.

The shoot will last all day and will be taking place mostly in Esquimalt Gorge Park, near the newly completed pavilion.

In addition to the work in the Gorge, crews will be on the adjacent Gosper Crescent where some scenes will be shot of the show’s stars walking through the neighbourhood.

Those living in the houses located between 1052 and 1036 Gosper Crescent may get to see their homes featured in the show when the second season goes to air.

“We plan to film simple walking scenes along Gosper Crescent and some dialogue scenes on a park bench along the Gorge Park waterway paths,” wrote Paul Russell, location manager for the production.

“To minimize disruption to the neighbourhood, all our crew and most of our trucks will be parked away from your neighbourhood.”

Filming will take place in and around Gosper Crescent and Esquimalt Gorge Park between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to the notice.

No disruptions should take place aside from intermittent traffic control between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to “maintain continuity of picture and sound.”

The series is based on Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire book series and its synopsis reads; “in a world populated by beautiful, fit and vain vampires, Reginald tumbles into it as an unlikely hero who will navigate every kind of obstacle and discovers he has a few unrecognized powers of his own.”

Reginald the Vampire has shot most of the series right here in Greater Victoria, beginning in  2021. Some set pieces have been built up specifically for the series, such as the retro “Slushy Shack” at the old Glanford Auto Service garage at 4233 Glanford Avenue.
