Saanich church goes viral on TikTok after making a cheeky ‘Barbie’ reference (VIDEO)

Share

The Lutheran Church on Cedar Hill Road got worldwide attention as it, along with everyone else, got swept up in Barbie-mania.

The church changed its often humorous marquee letter board to read, “Mary’s everything, he’s just Joseph,” which was an obvious and immediately recognizable play on the newly released Barbie movie’s advertising tagline, “Barbie’s everything, he’s just Ken.”

The sign caught the eye of a local named Carter Martin, a UVic student who posted a video of him reacting to the church’s sign on TikTok.

Martin posted the video to his social media accounts on Wednesday, July 25th, and already, just one day later, the video’s been viewed over 3.2 million times.

It has also garnered over 687,000 likes, more than 3,200 comments, it’s been saved nearly 30,000 times and it has over 19,000 shares.

Many people in the comments even pointed it out as a church in the Greater Victoria area.

The Lutheran Church of the Cross prides itself on accepting the 2SLGBTQI+ community into its congregation and they say they are working actively on reconciliation actions in their community.

The church says they try to encapsulate uplifting and funny sayings when doing their sign and there is no doubt that this one was a home-run.
