One suspect has been arrested after a serious assault in Cumberland last week.

The incident occurred at around noon in the 3300-block of Third Street on July 5th.

In a media release, Comox Valley RCMP said they were called to the area after a report of an assault with a weapon.

Police said the victim sustained serious, potentially life-threatening injuries, and was immediately transported to hospital.

Frontline officers, along with Comox Valley RCMP major crime unit, swiftly assisted with the incident.

After identifying a suspect, the individual fled on an ATV into a rural wooded area. With the help of Police Dog Services (Norco) and Air Services, the suspect was successfully apprehended following an extensive search.

“Although the investigation is still ongoing, the evidence gathered thus far indicates that this was a targeted attack and there does not appear to be a risk to the general public,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer.

The victim is still in hospital, in stable condition.

The suspect has been charged with multiple offences and remains in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321.
