Zellers fans rejoice!

The iconic store is officially returning as a pop-up in the Bay Centre next month to see if Victorians want it to stay for good.

They will also be opening a spot at Nanaimo’s Woodgrove Centre.

In an announcement Tuesday morning, the company said they are set to launch 21 Zellers pop-ups within Hudson’s Bay across five provinces by August 11th.

The pop-ups are being described as “strategic market tests” aimed at evaluating potential locations for future Zellers stores.

“Pop-ups are a key ingredient in our expansion strategy, allowing us to explore and test in new markets, gather valuable customer insights, and fine-tune our offering before establishing larger format store locations,” said Sophia Hwang-Judiesch, President of Hudson’s Bay.

“Our customers are very much part of our growth process, and together we will shape the future of Zellers, building a shopping experience that truly connects with communities across Canada.”

According to the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC), the owner of Zellers, the pop-up footprints will vary in size depending on the location, ranging from 1,000 to 2,800 square feet.

“Showcasing a curated assortment of quality, value and design-led Zellers merchandise, the pop-ups deliver a delightful bite-sized taste of Zellers,” said the company in a release.

Established in 1931, the Zellers department store marked its inception, and in 1978, it was acquired by HBC, transforming into the discount division for the retailer.

A little over a decade ago, HBC sold a significant portion of its storefronts to Target during the American retail giant’s brief and ultimately short-lived entry into the Canadian market.

In March, HBC reintroduced the Zellers brand by incorporating several stores inside its Hudson’s Bay locations.

There has been no talks of the brand opening a standalone Zellers store.
