We hope you’ve had a great work week, and now it’s time for some well-earned downtime!

Attend a Friends of Dorothy famous Dinner & Drag night, check out a concert at Capital Ballroom, get the best view of the Harvest Moon from a paddle board or catch the Victoria Royals home opener!

Additionally, in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, there will be a special free screening of Bones and Crows at the IMAX theatre.

Bones and Crows at IMAX

IMAX at the Royal BC Museum will be showcasing Marie Clements’ film, Bones and Crows, as well as a discussion panel afterwards.

Clements is a Canadian Métis playwright, performer, director, producer, and screenwriter. Her other films include Red Snow and Looking at Edward Curtis.

As described, Bones and Crows is a heartbreaking and powerful story that follows Cree musician, Aline Spears, through “the haunting past of Canada’s residential school system as she continues her family’s resilient fight against systemic hunger, discrimination, and sexual abuse.”

Tsow-tun Le Lum will be available on-site during the screening to offer support and care for anyone in need of it. Smudging will also be available following the panel discussion.

Admission is free but because of limited seating, you have to register.

Dinner & Drag

Friends of Dorothy is thrilled to present another Dinner & Drag happening this Friday!

It features a delicious three-course meal and fabulous local drag performers for the ultimate dining experience.

Full Moon Paddle

South Island SUP is inviting everyone for a Full Moon Paddle to enjoy the stunning Harvest Moon!

Waterproof flashlights will be provided—just make sure you dress for the weather and bring a towel and a change of clothes just in case.

Bring your own board and paddle, drysuits or wetsuits, boots, and gloves. No worries if you don’t have any gear, you can also rent it from them.

The gathering point is Willows Beach at the North End of Esplanade. Just make sure you register and sign an e-waiver before joining in on the water fun! Registration fee is $20 and you can do so here.

Shred Kelly and Elliott Brood

Head downtown to Capital Ballroom for featured performers, Shred Kelly and Elliott Brood!

Shred Kelly was born in the Canadian Rockies and is described as a seamless blend of alternative, folk, and rock music.

Hailing from Toronto, Elliott Brood brings soul-moving alternative country and has been wowing crowds across Canada.

Tickets to see these two incredible bands are $22.50 and you can purchase them here.

Victoria Royals Home Opener Against Prince George

That’s right—it’s that time of year!

The Victoria Royals are back for another season and you can catch their Home Opener game at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this Friday.

You can buy your tickets here—prices vary depending on seating selection.

Grab your friends, treat yourself to a beer, and cheer as loud as you can!
