Nanaimo RCMP are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage related to a recent motorcycle crash that left an adult man with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 14th, at approximately 1 p.m. on the Nanaimo Parkway, specifically in the northbound lanes, just north of the exit ramp leading to Parksville and Campbell River.

Investigators have already interviewed two witnesses who were present during the crash.

According to both witnesses, the vehicles involved in the incident were a white pick-up truck and a red motorcycle, both of which were traveling northbound along the Nanaimo Parkway.

The witnesses recounted that at one point, the driver of the pick-up truck initiated a lane change. In response, the motorcyclist swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision.

Unfortunately, this maneuver resulted in the motorcyclist losing control of his bike and ultimately coming to a rest in a nearby ditch.

Regrettably, neither of the witnesses could provide specific details such as the license plate, make, or model of the pick-up truck, which continued northbound without stopping.

The injured motorcyclist was treated at the scene by first responders before being transported to Nanaimo General Hospital for further medical attention. As of the latest update, he remains hospitalized, battling severe injuries.

“It is possible that the driver of the pick-up did not see the motorcycle that was travelling beside them. Having said that, we need to speak with the driver and obtain their version of events,” said R/ Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

In addition to appealing for the driver of the pick-up to come forward,  police are also requesting assistance from any motorists who were driving in the area between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. on September 14th. Police believe that dashcam footage from that timeframe may provide valuable insights into the events leading up to the crash.

Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken with police is urged to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
