Tuesday’s massive wind storm that brought heavy rains along with it has come and gone but its impacts are still being felt by some Vancouver Islanders.

As of Wednesday morning, there were nearly 17,000 who were left without power due to the storm throughout the island.

Now, there is just over 650 thanks to a full response by BC Hydro, working through the evening and overnight to get the lights back on for those affected.

“Crews continue to make progress on repairs to restore power following last night’s windstorm,” said a BC Hydro spokesperson in their latest update on Wednesday evening at around 7 p.m.

“Unfortunately, due to the extensive damage in some of the hardest-hit areas, we do expect to have some customers out overnight.”

Approximately 51 customers in the Musgraves Landing area of Salt Spring Island were one of these regions who were hit hardest and thus have been left without power overnight.

BC Hydro say crews are on their way to the Musgraves Landing area and should arrive to start dealing with the issue at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 26th.

There are also customers in Duncan, Shawnigan Lake and Lake Cowichan area who were similarly impacted.

BC Hydro says they will continue to post updates and estimated times for power restoration on their website.
