A Saanich landlord is facing charges after pulling a shotgun on his tenant.

The incident unfolded around 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, near the 2700-block of Richmond Road—where police received a report of an altercation between a landlord and his tenant.

The confrontation led to a significant police response, with the suspect eventually surrendering after a three-hour standoff.

In response to the escalating situation, several units were dispatched to the scene, including the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, the Saanich Major Crime Unit, and a canine team.

As the situation unfolded, it became clear that the landlord was not willing to cooperate.

Streets surrounding the 2700-block of Richmond Road were cordoned off, causing disruptions for local residents. Neighbours were advised to stay inside their homes and away from windows to ensure their safety as police worked diligently to subdue the armed suspect.

After a three-hour standoff, the landlord eventually surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident.

The landlord now faces two charges: assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused was expected to make an appearance in provincial court shortly after his arrest.
