In a precautionary move ahead of the Thanksgiving weekend, Thrifty Foods has issued a recall for a specific turkey due to concerns related to food safety.

The grocery chain issued the recall through their email newsletter after discovering potential issues that could compromise food safety.

The recall is for a specific batch of Sunrise Grade A Fresh Turkey (5-8 kg) with a best before date of October 11th.

Customers who have purchased these turkeys are urged to return them to any Thrifty Foods store for a full refund. The recall has been prompted by concerns regarding the spoilage of this particular batch of turkeys.

A staff with the company told Victoria Buzz the recall comes after it was confirmed a “bad batch” of turkeys are spoiling faster than expected.

A spokesperson with Sobeys told Victoria Buzz the products were removed from all Western Canadian stores including FreshCo, IGA, Safeway, Sobeys and Thrifty Foods after it was determined the product didn’t meet their quality standards.

As a precautionary measure, the company has decided to recall the affected products to ensure the well-being of its customers.

Anyone who purchased the impacted Sunrise Grade A Fresh Turkey can return it to their nearest Thrifty Foods store. Upon return, customers will receive a full refund for their purchase.
