Be prepared if you’re planning any outside fun this weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for some regions of Vancouver island on Friday afternoon.

They say that strong winds are expected to begin on Saturday and will continue through Sunday morning.

The brunt of these winds are expected to be felt the most by exposed coastal communities near the Juan de Fuca Strait, which includes Tofino, Ucuelet, Port Renfrew, Jordan River, Sooke and Victoria.

Victoria’s Breakwater District, the stretch of Dallas Road, Oak Bay and areas of Gordon Head near the water will see the worst of these winds.

At this time, Environment Canada has not released a prediction for how strong these winds may be but will be monitoring the weather system responsible through the weekend.

“A vigorous frontal system will move across the south coast Saturday evening to Sunday,” warns Environment Canada.

“With the frontal passage, strong winds are expected for exposed coastal sections of West Vancouver Island and through Juan de Fuca strait Saturday night to Sunday morning.”

The national weather authority also warns of the risk of power outages through this incoming wind storm.

Aside from this special weather statement, the rest of Friday should remain mostly sunny, with an overnight low of 2°C.

Saturday will be cloudy with a 60% chance of rain. The high for the day will be 10°C with the temperature dipping to 8°C overnight through the wind storm.

Sunday’s forecast is almost identical to Saturday’s except the sun is expected to peek through the rain clouds throughout the day and the temperature will drop to 4°C overnight.
