Another wind warning has been issued for Greater Victoria

Share

Another day, another alert for Greater Victoria.

In addition to the massive waves expected for parts of Vancouver Island, including Victoria, Environment Canada is now warning of high winds.

Strong winds are anticipated to sweep through exposed coastal sections, southeasterly winds reaching speeds of 70 km/h, with gusts surging up to 90 km/h.

The forecast indicates that these forceful winds will prevail from late morning into the evening hours. The regions likely to be significantly affected encompass the exposed coastal sections of Victoria, extending from Nanoose Bay to Campbell River, and enveloping the entirety of the Sunshine Coast.

This weather phenomenon is attributed to the imminent approach of yet another robust frontal system towards the BC coast. The onset of southeast winds at 70 km/h, coupled with gusts intensifying to 90 km/h, is slated to commence over the exposed coastal sections of Victoria later in the morning.

These winds are projected to escalate further, making their way into the northern Strait of Georgia by early afternoon.

However, relief appears to be in sight as the winds are forecasted to gradually diminish below the warning threshold by late this evening.

In preparation for this anticipated weather event, residents and individuals in these areas are urged to exercise caution, secure loose objects, and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks associated with the anticipated strong winds.

On Tuesday, Environment Canada issued a warning about threat of significant waves and elevated sea levels along the western coast of Vancouver Island.

The latest alert, issued in the wake of a recent wind storm, forecasts the arrival of colossal waves reaching staggering heights of 16 to 22 feet.

The forecast indicates the onslaught of these towering waves and elevated sea levels during Wednesday’s high tide.

Hang onto those hats, Victoria!
