As the holiday season progresses, Canada’s west coast faces yet another weather alert.

Following a series of storms that have battered the region, Environment Canada has issued a warning about the impending threat of towering waves and elevated sea levels along the western coast of Vancouver Island.

The latest alert, issued in the wake of a recent wind storm, forecasts the arrival of colossal waves reaching staggering heights of 16 to 22 feet.

These mammoth waves are poised to pummel coastal areas and communities spanning from Port Renfrew to Sombrio, encompassing Jordan River and the western areas such as Sooke, and possibly further east.

The special weather statement now includes shorelines around the Greater Victoria area as well.

“Large waves, storm surge and seasonably high tides have the potential to produce high water levels for Wednesday. Coastal flooding is possible along exposed shorelines, especially in low-lying areas,” read the weather statement.

Additionally, there’s a possibility of impacts further east, extending the concern for communities along these vulnerable shorelines.

The forecast indicates the onslaught of these towering waves and elevated sea levels during Wednesday’s high tide.
