Elevated ocean tides may cause minor shoreline flooding on Saanich Peninsula this weekend

Share

A special weather statement was issued by Environment Canada for this weekend regarding higher than normal tides.

Due to incoming weather conditions, these anticipated high tides are being expected for the Metro Vancouver, Southern Gulf Islands and Saanich Peninsula regions.

“Low barometric pressure will combine with a period of high astronomical tide to produce elevated water levels Saturday and Sunday,” said the national weather authority.

“Minor coastal flooding is possible along exposed shorelines.”

The worst of the higher than normal tides will take place on Saturday and Sunday from mid to late morning.

Environment Canada added that the threat from impending wind and accompanying waves will cause the high water levels to be greatest on Sunday.

These elevated water levels are likely to continue at high tide through Monday and Tuesday as well.
