Fans can skate with the Victoria Royals after New Year’s day game

Victoria’s fervent hockey enthusiasts were treated to an electrifying showdown as the Victoria Royals sealed their 2023 chapter with a stunning overtime victory against the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday night.

The Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre pulsated with energy, hosting nearly 7,000 fervent fans who contributed to an unforgettable atmosphere.

In a game characterized by spirited exchanges and nail-biting moments, the highlight of the night transcended the final buzzer.

A fortunate fan and their young daughter clinched a sought-after prize—a pair of tickets to witness the sensational Taylor Swift live in Vancouver. This thrilling win was the perfect crescendo to the Royals’ 4-3 overtime triumph, leaving the crowd in a jubilant frenzy.

Now, poised on the cusp of a brand-new year, the Victoria Royals are geared up for another thrilling spectacle on Monday, January 1st.

The inaugural event of 2024 will witness the Royals facing off against the Calgary Hitmen in an afternoon spectacle, scheduled for 3:05 p.m. However, this game isn’t just about hockey; it’s a celebration of the young ones as the stadium transforms into a playground for our Kids Takeover Game.

The Royals will also debut their brand new blue jersey unveiled earlier this week.

“We wanted to merge our two iconic looks, the blue jersey with our lionhead logo,” said Joel Rinne, Director of Marketing and Community relations.

“The Shoulder patch is a nod to both the historical Victoria Cougars with the classic VR layout on top of one another and the crown naturally is a nod to the moniker ‘Royals’.”

“The blue links us to the Pacific Ocean, with the stripes on the helm & sleeves speaking to the darkness of the deep parts of the sea (Black), the rocks on our shores (gray) which the water hits to create its white caps (white).”

But the excitement doesn’t end with the final whistle.

Post-game, fans of all ages are invited to lace up their skates for an exclusive opportunity to hit the ice alongside the Victoria Royals’ players and of course, Marty the Marmot.

Skate rentals will be available after the game.

As we bid adieu to 2023 and ring in 2024 with the thrill of hockey and the joy of community, the Victoria Royals extend an invitation to join them in this momentous occasion.

It’s not just a game; it’s an experience—a chance to be part of something extraordinary as we embrace the new year with enthusiasm and a love for the game.

So, mark your calendars, don your jerseys, and get ready to cheer your hearts out for the Royals on New Year’s Day. Let’s kick off 2024 with a burst of energy and a skating session that promises to etch smiles on faces young and old alike.
