ICBC launches survey on expanding specialty license plate program

Share

In BC, drivers have a handful of options when it comes time to pick what their vehicle’s license plate will look like, and soon, they may have more.

The Province and ICBC are considering expanding the current specialty license plate options in BC and are looking to the public for feedback on what they should bring to the table.

Right now, there is the classic white “Beautiful British Columbia” license plate, along with a more retro design, a spirit bear BC Parks option, “Ham Radio” plates for those who are amateur radio operators, veteran plates and a handful of other specialized plates.

When people opt to get the BC Parks plate, a portion of the proceeds go toward the organization.

Going forward, ICBC is attempting to glean from this survey whether they should allow non-profit organizations to benefit from people choosing their plate.

“Both ICBC and government regularly get requests from people asking whether there are licence plate options beyond what we currently offer,” said David Wong, president and CEO of ICBC.

“Hearing directly from British Columbians on this topic is an important first step on a longer journey toward a wider variety of licence plates on our roads.”

In other provinces, motorists can choose personalized license plates with their favourite sports team and other options that benefit arts, culture, sports and charities.

The survey launched by the Province and ICBC aims to gauge what people want their license plates to look like going forward.

It takes around five minutes to complete and will be open for feedback until January 31st.
