This year’s Stuff the Trolley Challenge in Langford was a resounding success that saw food, toys and cash donated for those in need this Christmas.

The campaign ended last week and on Friday, December 22nd, the City of Langford announced their results.

All-in-all the trolley was stuffed full of $2,900 in cash, $400 in gift cards, over 1000 food items, 80 toys and non-food-related items.

These goods have since been distributed to the Goldstream Food Bank and Ruth King Elementary School in support of their hamper program.

The trolley which collects donations travelled throughout Langford as a part of this fundraising campaign, and this year was posted up at the annual Langford Light Up, Belmont Secondary School, the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa, and the West Shore Town Centre.

“It’s wonderful to see the community come together to support those in need in such a significant way,” said Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson.

“While we always see an abundance of donation campaigns during the holiday season, I want to remind everyone that donations are needed year-round.”

Food bank usage has increased significantly over recent years, I encourage the community to keep the Goldstream Food Bank in mind now and throughout 2024,” the mayor added.

According to the City, the Goldstream Food Bank needs the community’s support badly, as Food Banks Canada reported a 32% increase since last year in people requiring their services due to increasing food insecurity.

Since March 2019, there has been an increase of 78% in people needing food from the food bank.
