Victoria driver who attempted to hit protester with his car officially charged

Share

After nearly two full weeks, VicPD have laid charges against a man who was caught on camera driving his car at a peaceful protester.

The protester was one of hundreds gathered at the BC legislature to call on the government to advocate an immediate ceasefire in Palestine on Sunday, December 3rd.

The driver saw the protest and drove his vehicle across traffic and up onto the sidewalk where he almost hit the protester.

He then exited his vehicle and got face-to-face with another protester who did not engage while the driver shouted aggressively at him.

Soon after he began showing aggression toward the protester, nearby VicPD officers who were on hand for the rally brought him to the ground and arrested him.

As of Thursday, December 14th, he has been officially charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Protesters who were present at the time of the incident have been publically calling on VicPD for these charges to be laid against the driver since the altercation, while being hopeful he would also be charged with a hate crime and resisting arrest.

Police say he is currently being held in custody as he awaits a court date.

According to VicPD, now that this matter is before the courts, further information cannot be provided.
