A new year heralds a new jersey for the Victoria Royals.

On Thursday, the team hinted at a forthcoming special announcement by sharing a close-up photo of the new jersey.

With the season hitting the half way mark, the black jersey, initially worn on the road during the first half of the season, will now be worn at home. It will alternate with the newly unveiled blue jersey, showcasing the primary Royals logo.

“We wanted to merge our two iconic looks, the blue jersey with our lionhead logo,” said Joel Rinne, Director of Marketing and Community relations.

“The Shoulder patch is a nod to both the historical Victoria Cougars with the classic VR layout on top of one another and the crown naturally is a nod to the moniker ‘Royals’.”

“The blue links us to the Pacific Ocean, with the stripes on the helm & sleeves speaking to the darkness of the deep parts of the sea (Black), the rocks on our shores (gray) which the water hits to create its white caps (white).”

The Royals have two games scheduled over the New Year’s Eve long weekend. They’ll don the black jerseys for Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oil Kings, while the debut of the new jerseys is set for Monday, January 1st against the Calgary Hitmen.

The jersey, dubbed the Blue 3rd, showcases a fresh emblem on the shoulders, monochrome stripes on the arms, and the lion heads crest prominently displayed on the front.

Those wanting to be one of the first to own the new alternate jersey can pre order online.
