BC Ferries has preemptively cancelled multiple sailings between Victoria and Vancouver for Tuesday morning in anticipation of high winds.
In a notice posted on the company’s website, the 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. sailings between Tsawassen and Swartz Bay have been cancelled, as well as the 7:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. sailings between Tsawassen and Duke Point.
BC Ferries stated that it will contact customers with bookings on cancelled sailings to inform them about available space on alternate sailings later in the day or if their booking needs cancellation.
“In case of cancellation, we will refund fees and/or fares,” the statement assured.
The company emphasized prioritizing safety and addressed customers directly, stating, “We understand your need to reach important destinations. Our vessels will continuously monitor weather conditions, aiming to resume service as soon as it’s safe.”

Environment Canada issued a weather alert today urging people to be aware of “significant waves” near some coastal areas Tuesday morning.
In addition, a potent frontal system is impacting the BC coast on Tuesday. Westerly winds have strengthened to 70 km/h, with gusts reaching 90 km/h near the water. These winds are expected to decrease below warning levels this afternoon as the system starts to move away from the region.
The following sailings have been cancelled for Tuesday January 9th:
- 7 a.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 7 a.m. departing Swartz Bay
- 9 a.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 9 a.m. departing Swartz Bay
