CRD cancels curbside recycling pickup due to precarious weather and road conditions

Share

Similar to a lot of services in and around Greater Victoria today, recycling pickup has been cancelled due to the weather.

Snow began falling overnight and continues to do so through the morning of Wednesday, January 17th.

Because of these weather conditions, Greater Victoria’s roads have been slow-going for motorists, bus commuters and bike commuters alike.

Flights have been cancelled, buses cancelled or extremely delayed and in some cases, schools have been cancelled for the day as well.

In the early morning hours, the Capital Regional District (CRD) followed suit and cancelled the day’s curbside recycling pickup for all routes.

“All scheduled blue box collection is cancelled today due to unsafe weather and road conditions in the region,” said the CRD in a media release.

“Residents affected are advised to hold their recycling until their next collection day.”

The CRD reminds Greater Victoria residents that there is no limit to the amount of recycling placed on the curb for pickup, so in two-weeks time, people will still be able to be rid of all the recycling they have accumulated.

Alternatively, recyclables can be taken to any recycling depot to be recycled free of charge; however, the CRD does not recommend driving unless absolutely necessary during these conditions.

To stay in-the-know, residents can download the CRD’s app, RecycleCRD, or they can follow along on their website or X account (formerly Twitter).
