An avid fisherman from Denman Island struck gold last month by playing the Daily Grand draw, winning an impressive $500,000.

David Elliott, who usually spends his free time casting lines and reeling in catches, found himself at the Walmart on Cliffe Avenue in Courtenay when he received the life-changing news after winning the December 7th draw.

Reflecting on the moment, Elliott said, “I was in disbelief. I didn’t know how much I won until I phoned in. I thought the lady at the lotto kiosk made a mistake!”

The Denman Island resident’s first reaction was to share the incredible news with his girlfriend, who was visibly shaken by the revelation.

Eager to savour the victory, Elliott plans to celebrate with a sumptuous steak dinner and, true to his passion, hit the waters for a fishing expedition at the earliest opportunity.

“Honestly, I just want to buy more bait and go fishing. It’s my thing,” he exclaimed.

When asked about his feelings on winning half a million dollars, Elliott simply described it as “Fantastic!”

It’s worth noting that Elliott secured his winning ticket from the BCLC Lotto kiosk at Driftwood Mall in Courtenay.

The angler’s stroke of luck has added an exciting chapter to his love for fishing, promising a prosperous journey ahead.
