Lake Cowichan RCMP are investigating a shooting incident that resulted in one man being hospitalized with serious injuries.

On January 28th, shortly before 11 p.m., police responded to a residence on South Shore Road for a report of a man who sustained a gunshot wound.

Police responded to the area with the assistance of the Vancouver Island RCMP Emergency Response Unit (ERT), Police Dog Services (PDS), and arrested a 52-year-old suspect without further incident.

The 23-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

“Investigators are now working diligently in order to piece together the circumstances prior that led up to the shooting, including the relation between the suspect and the victim,” said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia.

While the investigation remains in its infancy, police said there is no further perceived risk to the public as the lone suspect remains in custody.

The victim is expected to survive.
