UVic and Camosun College elect to close for the remainder of the day

While both UVic and Camosun College will be closing their facilities this afternoon due to the weather, both schools initially chose to open on Wednesday morning.

However, they have since announced that they will be closing earlier due to the ongoing weather system causing issues on the roads.

“Camosun College is closing at noon on Wednesday January 17th due to heavy snowfall throughout the region. All classes and services are cancelled for the remainder of the day,” the college wrote in an email statement.

The Greater Victoria School District opted to keep its schools open for the day, whereas the Saanich School District decided to close all schools for the day.

Anticipated snowfall of around 10 centimeters was expected.

Due to challenging weather conditions and disrupted transportation in the region, the UVic campus will also close at 12:30 p.m. today.

“A campus closure due to snow is not an emergency and an immediate departure from campus is not required,” said the university.

“We encourage everyone on campus to take their time and wind down their in-person activities. Online classes and administrative activities being conducted remotely will continue.”

Warmer weather and rain is in the forecast later Wednesday which will likely see the snow disappear as the day goes on.

For now, go enjoy the snow!
